Man hit by a car while crossing the street
A Colorado Springs man was rushed to the hospital after he was hit by a car while crossing the street at the intersection of Pikes Peak and Academy Boulevard. At the time of the report, he was in critical condition at a local hospital and the Colorado Springs Police Department do not believe any sort of drugs and alcohol to be involved in the accident. According to the Colorado News First Five, the police are still investigating what happened at the scene and have not released all of the information.

In an update regarding the death of a 17-year-old Colorado Springs high school athlete back in December 2010, it has now been reported in the Denver Post that the unfortunate youth did not die of an aneurysm as had been first supposed. Rather, after further medical analysis, authorities discovered that his death resulted from unrecognized brain injuries sustained while playing sports several days earlier.

A local Colorado Springs man died after driving his motorcycle off the road. The young 33-year-old male was ejected from his bike when he drove off of Flintridge Drive and struck a curb, according to a news article by KKTV. The unidentified man was traveling down the 5500 block when he failed to turn left and crashed his bike. According to local officials the driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and did not have the proper license to be operating such a vehicle.

According to FOX 31, on March 4, 2011, a Castle Rock woman miscarried after she was hit twice while crossing in a cross walk in front of the Wal-Mart Supercenter on Sam Walton Lane. According to the victim, Rachel Sears, she entered the crosswalk and then was hit by the vehicle. After she got up, she attempted to cross again and was hit a second time by the same vehicle. Unfortunately, she lost her baby 24 hours later at Sky Ridge Hospital.

According to Fox 21, the Colorado Springs Police Department is investigating a hit and run that happened early Saturday morning March 26, 2011. Police were called to the intersection of Mark Dabling Boulevard and Fillmore Street to investigate the single car automobile accident. When police arrived they found a 1994 Cadillac Deville sedan with extreme damage to the driver’s side of the car. While no occupants were found inside the car, a short time later 3 passengers were located, one of which was a 22 year old female who was taken to the hospital with a severe head injury. After investigating further it is thought that the Cadillac was traveling West on Fillmore and struck the north curb line and guardrail. The vehicle then veered into traffic, crossing the eastbound lanes and ultimately crashing into the south curb line and post of a bridge guardrail. Alcohol and excessive speed are suspected in this crash.

The Denver Post has reported that a “woman is in critical condition after she jumped in front of a moving tractor trailer on Interstate 25 in Fort Collins this morning.” It appears the woman was attempting to commit suicide. Witnesses said she parked her car on the side of the interstate and stepped out in front of the first semi that passed her. The driver of the truck was able to avoid the woman. However, the woman then ran toward another semi that also attempted to avoid the woman but was unsuccessful. The woman was clipped by the passenger side of the truck and sustained serious injuries. She was taken to the Medical Center of the Rockies where she remains. Luckily, no one else was injured while trying to avoid the woman.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, in 2008, 548 people in Colorado were killed in motor vehicle involved crashes. Of the 548 fatalities, 42 were pedestrians, 83 were motorcyclists and 56 were semi-truck involved. It is fortunate that no one was injured or killed in this incident. This woman was obviously troubled but she could have injured or killed any number of people with her actions. KRDO Channel 13 has reported that a car driven by Ezzell Kade, 18, was involved in a single car crash near Woodmen Road and Austin Bluffs Parkway today. The car hit a tree and light pole before coming to a stop. Apparently, Kade was not alone in the car. Police believe a passenger, who has not been identified yet, fled the scene of the accident. It is also believed that Kade and his passenger were high on fumes from compressed air cans at the time of the crash. Several empty cans were found in the back of the wrecked vehicle. Kade sustained minor injuries and faces several charges. Police are still investigating the passengers role in the crash.

The Denver Channel (7 News) has reported that the organs of a victim killed in a automobile crash in Texas involving Colorado state senator, Suzanne Williams, have been donated to six different people. Relatives of 30-year-old Brianna Gomez said that they didn’t hesitate to have her taken off life support and have her organs donated when they realized the severity of her situation. They pointed to their strong faith and their assurance that Brianna had moved on to a better place. Brianna was pregnant at the time of the accident and doctors at the Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo performed an emergency Cesarean section to deliver her baby boy. The infant, Curran Blaec Gomez, weighed 3 pounds at birth and remains in critical condition. Senator Williams released a statement Tuesday expressing her grief and sadness over the accident. Her son and two grandsons who were riding in the vehicle with her were injured in the crash. The crash remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The Gazette is reporting that snowfall was making Monday mornings commute a little troublesome. Several crashes snarled traffic throughout El Paso County, especially in Monument and Black Forest. A roll-over crash slowed northbound traffic near I-25 and Baptist Road at about 6:15 this morning. The roads were covered in black ice forcing some commuters to abandon their vehicles.
